An 81-year-old Southern California man has been arrested and dubbed a "serial slingshot shooter" by Azusa police after allegedly targeting his neighbors for nearly a decade.

Police in Azusa, California, responded to a "quality of life issue" on the 900 block of North Enid Avenue. Upon investigation, they discovered a disturbing truth - "dozens of citizens had been victimized by a serial slingshot shooter" over the past 9 to 10 years.

The suspect, identified as Prince King, is accused of using a slingshot to break windows and windshields, according to police reports. In some instances, King's aim was worryingly close to striking people in the neighborhood.
Police Crack Down on Slingshot Attacks
Following a search warrant served at a residence in the area of the reported attacks, Azusa police apprehended King on Thursday. A slingshot and ball bearings were found within the home, linking King to the crimes.
Lt. Jake Bushey of the Azusa Police Department informed the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that the investigation began after the initial serial slingshot shooter incident. However, identifying the culprit proved challenging until recently.
While details remain unclear on how King was ultimately identified, Lt. Bushey revealed detectives discovered a connection between the ball bearings used in the attacks and King's backyard or a nearby location.
Motive and Victims Remain Uncertain
Police are still searching for a motive beyond "malicious mischief," Lt. Bushey stated. The investigation also hasn't revealed a pattern to King's targeting of specific people or properties.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported that some residents commented on the Azusa Police Department's Facebook page mentioning past incidents of car window damage caused by projectiles, though they couldn't confirm if King was responsible for those specific occurrences.
Prince King's next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
