In a statement, McDonald's Australia acknowledged the bird flu hitting McDonald's operations and the resulting egg supply challenges.
They reassured customers that they are working closely with local suppliers to manage the situation.
Bird Flu Outbreak in Australia Disrupts Egg Supply
The culprit behind the egg shortage? Multiple strains of bird flu detected across 11 poultry facilities in southeast Australia over the past two months.
Authorities have moved to control the outbreak and assure consumers that the situation is under management.
While some temporary stock shortages may occur, the government is working to redirect supplies to affected areas and advises against panic-buying eggs.
Limited Impact on Egg Production, But Big Impact on Breakfast
The good news: less than 10% of Australia's egg-laying hens have been impacted by the bird flu.
However, the outbreaks have resulted in the culling of roughly 1.5 million chickens nationwide.
Thankfully, none of the detected strains are the highly pathogenic H5N1 variant that has spread globally.
So, for now, Australian McDonald's fans will need to set their alarms a bit earlier to enjoy their favorite breakfast meals.
