He was a multi-instrumentalist, playing piano, synthesizers, percussion, and the fidola. During this period, his talent was recognized, and he won Europe’s Jazz Forum magazine poll five times."

A Lasting Collaboration: Kaczmarek and Director Agnieszka Holland

Kaczmarek's career flourished when he began a long-lasting collaboration with Polish director Agnieszka Holland in 1995 with the film "Total Eclipse."

“Finding Neverland” and the Power of Music

Jan A.P. Kaczmarek's music for Marc Forster's "Finding Neverland" truly resonated with audiences worldwide. The score for this biographical film about the life of J.M. Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan, captured the essence of childhood innocence.

Kaczmarek described his approach to the film's music as "an introspection into the world of children." This heartfelt composition earned him the coveted Academy Award for Best Original Score, along with nominations for both a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

A Legacy of Artistic Inspiration

Kaczmarek's creative process was fueled by a strong emotional connection to the films he scored. He emphasized the importance of an "instant response to the image" when composing. This initial spark of inspiration would then be refined and structured to create the final masterpieces that moved audiences.

Beyond composing, Kaczmarek was passionate about nurturing new artistic talent. Inspired by the Sundance Institute, he established Instytut Rozbitek to support the development of new projects in film, theater, music, and new media.

He also founded and served as the creative director of the Transatlantyk Poznan International Film and Music Festivals in 2011 and 2012.
