The Powerball jackpot has soared to an incredible $1.09 billion, making it the fourth highest prize in the lottery's history, ahead of the upcoming drawing on Wednesday.

Currently, the jackpot stands at an estimated $1.09 billion, with a cash option of $527.3 million for the draw on Wednesday, April 3.

The last time the Powerball jackpot was won was on January 1, with a Michigan player taking home an $842 million prize. The record for the largest Powerball jackpot win is still held by a November 2022 jackpot, where a lucky individual in California claimed a massive $2.04 billion.

The numbers drawn on Monday, April 1, were 19, 24, 40, 42, and 56, with the red Powerball jackpot being 23 and the Power Play option doubling to 2X.

Although no one won the jackpot or the Match 5 + Power Play prize of $2 million in Monday's draw, there were winners of the Match 5 $1 million prize across various states.

What is the Power Play?

The Power Play is an optional feature available for an additional $1 per play. It is determined through a random selection before each drawing and has the potential to increase non-jackpot prizes by factors of two, three, four, five, or even ten times.

Powerball says, The Match 5 with Power Play prize is always worth $2 million.

How to play Powerball?

Playing the Powerball game costs $2 for each play. Participants pick five numbers ranging from 1 to 69 for the white balls and one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball. You have the option to select your numbers manually on a play slip or use the lottery terminal's quick pick feature to have your numbers chosen randomly.

To win, match one of the nine ways:

  • 5 white balls + 1 red Powerball = Grand prize.
  • 5 white balls = $1 million.
  • 4 white balls + 1 red Powerball = $50,000.
  • 4 white balls = $100.
  • 3 white balls + 1 red Powerball = $100.
  • 3 white balls = $7.
  • 2 white balls + 1 red Powerball = $7.
  • 1 white ball + 1 red Powerball = $4.
  • 1 red Powerball = $4.

For an extra $1 per play, the Power Play option offers the opportunity to multiply non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five, or even ten times. This multiplier effect applies to non-jackpot winnings and can increase up to ten times if the jackpot is $150 million or less.

Prize amounts for all winnings are fixed, except for the grand prize. In California, the amounts paid out for prizes are based on sales and the number of individuals who win.
