Heart Issues from mRNA Covid Vaccines in Teens and Young Adults
A recent report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday found no indication that mRNA Covid vaccines result in fatal cardiac arrest or other severe heart issues among teenagers and young adults.
Speculation Surrounding Vaccination Misinformation
Since the authorization of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in late 2020, various anti-vaccination groups in the United States have attributed fatal heart problems in young athletes to these shots.

Dr. Paul Cieslak, a co-author of the study and the medical director of communicable diseases and immunizations at Oregon Health Authority's public health division, highlighted the immediate speculation surrounding Hamlin's collapse.
Many comments suggested a potential link to the COVID-19 vaccine. The study aimed to address and dispel such misinformation.
Analysis of Death Certificates
The conclusions drawn in the latest report stem from an examination of close to 1,300 death certificates belonging to Oregon residents aged 16 to 30 who passed away due to any heart-related condition or unknown causes between June 1, 2021, and December 31, 2022.
Throughout this specified timeframe, the authors noted that nearly 1 million teenagers and young adults in the state had received a Covid vaccine.
The authors narrowed their focus to individuals who had received an mRNA Covid vaccines from Pfizer or Moderna and subsequently passed away within 100 days of vaccination.
Findings from the Analysis
Among the 40 deaths observed in individuals who received an mRNA Covid vaccine, three occurred within this specified time frame. Of these, two deaths were linked to pre-existing chronic health conditions.
The third death was categorized as an "undetermined natural cause," with toxicology tests yielding negative results for alcohol, cannabis, methamphetamine, or other illicit substances.
Although the medical examiner could not definitively confirm or rule out Covid vaccination as the cause of death, none of the death certificates explicitly attributed the fatalities to the vaccines.
Expert Perspectives
Dr. Leslie Cooper, the chair of the cardiology department at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, who was not involved in the study, commended the researchers for their thorough analysis, noting that the 100-day time frame following vaccination was extensive.
"It's important to differentiate between cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart ceases to beat and pump blood, and other cardiac events like heart attacks or myocarditis, which involves inflammation of the heart muscle," he added.
Dr. Ofer Levy, the director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children's Hospital, highlighted that no vaccine has ever been definitively linked to sudden cardiac death.

"This study further supports the evidence that individuals do not experience fatal outcomes from receiving mRNA Covid vaccines," Levy concluded.
