NASCAR Driver Son Arrested in Connection Capitol Riot
NASCAR driver, Tighe Scott, and his son, Jarret Scott, were arrested on Wednesday in Pennsylvania on charges stemming from their alleged participation in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Facing Felony Charges
The D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office announced the arrests, revealing that both Scotts are facing serious charges. These include two felonies: obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding specific officers. They also face several misdemeanor charges.
According to court documents, a witness recognized Tighe Scott, 75, from his NASCAR racing days in the 1970s and 1980s, and subsequently informed the authorities.

NASCAR Driver Son Arrested Accused of Violence Against Officers
The D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office alleges that both Scotts engaged in violent acts against law enforcement officers during the Capitol riot.
Tighe Scott is accused of striking riot shields and attempting to wrest a shield away from an officer. Jarret Scott, 48, is alleged to have used a golf club to push against police shields.

The arrests of the Scotts come alongside those of another father-son duo, Scott Alex Slater Jr. and Scott Slater Sr. Authorities believe all four men were present at the Capitol on January 6th and participated in the attack.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, body camera footage and publicly available recordings corroborate the presence of the four men at the Capitol that day.
The group is accused of breaching restricted grounds, engaging in physical altercations with officers, and verbally harassing them later in the day. The release further details that Slater Jr. allegedly threw a flagpole at an officer, striking them.
Shortly after, Slater Jr. is also alleged to have thrown an "AREA CLOSED" sign towards the line of officers.
Over 1400 Facing Charges Related to January 6th Riot
The D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office emphasized that these arrests are part of a larger investigation into the January 6th Capitol riot.
Over 1,424 individuals have been charged thus far, spanning nearly every state in the U.S. Of those charged, more than 500 are accused of assaulting or obstructing law enforcement officers.
