Houthi missile strikes in the Gulf of Aden targeted two commercial vessels on Sunday, according to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
These attacks mark a continuation of the Houthi rebel group's efforts to disrupt international maritime traffic.

The Houthis also launched two missiles targeting the Norderney, a German cargo ship flying the flags of Antigua and Barbuda. Similar to the Tavvishi, the Norderney sustained damage but managed to continue its voyage with its crew unharmed.
Houthis Claim Responsibility for Attacks
The Houthi rebels themselves announced that they had targeted both the Tavvishi and the Norderney. Their claim included igniting a fire on the Norderney, though this detail remains unconfirmed.
Houthi Attacks on Commercial Shipping
CENTCOM's report highlights the ongoing issue of Houthi missile strikes on commercial vessels. Since November, the Houthis, who control Yemen's most populated areas, have launched attacks in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
These attacks include sinking a ship, seizing another vessel, and tragically causing the deaths of three crew members in a separate incident.
It is important to note: While the Houthis were not designated as a terrorist organization by the United States as of January 2022, designations and political situations can change. Refer to current sources for the latest information.
