A private ceremony was recently held at Newtown High School, where approximately 60 Sandy Hook survivors graduated. These young adults spoke about the complex emotions they experience as they reach this milestone.
Emma Ehrens, a survivor, shared her experience with CBS News. "The shooter came into my classroom, and at six years old, I had to witness the loss of my friends and teachers and run for my life," she said, highlighting the trauma they continue to carry. The lingering fear and questions about "what ifs" remain a constant presence.
Another survivor, Lilly Wasilnak, reflected on the bittersweet nature of graduation. "You wait for this day your whole life, since kindergarten," she said. "Graduation felt so distant for so long... but we can't forget that a significant part of our class is missing."
