Second American Tourist Missing in Greek Islands
This is the second time in a week that an American tourist has gone missing in the Greek Islands. Search efforts continue for Albert Calibet, a 59-year-old retired Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy, who vanished on the island of Amorgos on Tuesday. Calibet was reported missing after failing to return from a hike.
Drone footage captured by a local Los Angeles news station showed rescue teams searching the rugged terrain where they believe Calibet may have been hiking. Calibet's girlfriend expressed her concern, stating they have no idea where he might be.
She recounted their last communication before his hike, which included a phone call and a photo sent from the trailhead.
String of Tourist Deaths in Greece
On Saturday, the body of a 74-year-old Dutch tourist was found on the eastern Greek island of Samos. The tourist's name has not been released. Firefighters located him using a drone in a ravine, approximately 330 yards from where he was last seen walking.
Authorities believe the extreme heat, which has reached triple digits across the islands, may have been a contributing factor.
