The attack occurred on Sunday in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The victim, who remains unnamed, sustained serious head injuries but is expected to recover.
Sheriff Bill Leeper of Nassau County held a press conference on Monday, expressing his disbelief at the case's unusual nature. "This is a bizarre case," Leeper stated. "Some things just defy logic."

A Fantasy World Feud: The Origins of the Attack
The altercation stemmed from a disagreement within the online video game ArcheAge. Leeper described the game as a fantasy-based online world where players create characters and engage in virtual combat.
"We don't know the specifics of what transpired between Kang and the victim online," Leeper explained, "but their online interaction apparently escalated to the point where Kang flew to Florida with the intention of harming the other player."

The attack unfolded around 2:00 am when deputies responded to a report of a physical altercation at a residence in Fernandina Beach. Upon arrival, Sheriff Leeper described a disturbing scene: "There was a significant amount of blood found at the entrance of the house and in the victim's bedroom."

According to Leeper, the victim's stepfather intervened after being awakened by his stepson's screams. He found his stepson on the ground being attacked by Kang, who was wielding a hammer and dressed entirely in black clothing, including gloves and a mask.
It appears Kang had snuck into the unlocked home and launched the attack while the victim was using the restroom.
Subdued by Stepfather, Kang Faces Legal Repercussions
The victim and his stepfather managed to overpower Kang, disarm him, and restrain him until authorities arrived. Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Following medical attention, Kang was booked into the Nassau County Jail.
Newsweek obtained an arrest affidavit revealing the victim required stitches to close a head wound and believes he was struck with the hammer multiple times.
A female relative of the victim confirmed their home is located in a gated community and that they typically leave their doors unlocked.
Tracing the Attack: Hotel Receipts and a Disturbing Motive
Investigators discovered Kang had recently traveled from New Jersey to Florida. Flight records confirmed a Delta flight from Newark to Jacksonville just days before the attack.
A search of Kang's hotel room yielded a receipt from Ace Hardware for a hammer and flashlight purchase.
Sheriff Leeper disclosed that Kang informed his family he was traveling to meet a friend from an online video game. When questioned by police about his motive, Kang referred to the victim as a "bad person online" and inquired about potential jail time for assault and breaking and entering.
A Stark Reminder: Online Safety and Security
Sheriff Leeper emphasized the potential dangers of online interactions with strangers. "This incident serves as a stark reminder of the possible real-world consequences of online interactions," Leeper concluded.
He urged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious online behavior to the authorities, and ensure their homes are properly secured.
