How the ATV Driver Died
The incident took place in Hancock at 5:45 p.m., amidst a series of vandalism cases targeting supporters of former President Donald Trump and law enforcement, according to police reports.
On Monday, the 22-year-old contacted Hancock police, admitting to a crime involving an ATV driver within the last 24 hours. He requested someone come to his home in Quincy Township, where deputies found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office

Evidence Found
Authorities located the ATV believed to be involved, along with the clothing the suspect was reported to be wearing.
Condition of the Victim
The 80-year-old victim, who was hit by the ATV, is in critical condition, as per Hancock police.
Neither the police department nor the sheriff’s office specified the type of political sign the victim was erecting when struck.
Related Incidents and Ongoing Investigation
Hancock police reported three related incidents, two involving vehicle vandalism believed to be carried out by someone on an ATV, targeting individuals expressing support for Trump or law enforcement.
The sheriff's office noted that victims had displayed Trump election signs or "thin blue line" stickers and flags. Both the sheriff's office and Hancock Police Department are continuing their investigation.
