In televised remarks on Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russian scientists were on the brink of developing cancer vaccines, which could soon be accessible to patients.
Putin stated that they were nearing the development of what he termed "cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs of a new generation."
Advancements in Cancer Vaccines and Treatments
Several countries and companies are actively pursuing cancer vaccines. Last year, the UK government partnered with Germany-based BioNTech to initiate clinical trials for "personalized cancer treatments," to reach 10,000 patients by 2030.
Pharmaceutical giants Moderna and Merck & Co are also working on an experimental cancer vaccine.

According to the World Health Organization, there are presently six licensed vaccines targeting human papillomaviruses (HPV), which are linked to several cancers including cervical cancer.
Additionally, vaccines against hepatitis B (HBV) are available, reducing the risk of liver cancer.

According to the WHO, lung cancer topped the list as the most frequently diagnosed cancer globally, with 2.5 million new cases making up 12.4% of the total new cases.
Following closely behind were female breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, and stomach cancer.

On February 4, World Cancer Day, the WHO unveiled its newest cancer estimates covering 115 countries.
Approximately 1 out of every 5 individuals will develop cancer during their lifetime, with around 1 out of every 9 men and 1 out of every 12 women succumbing to the illness.
The WHO report revealed concerning statistics: in 2022, cancer claimed the lives of 9.7 million people, and nearly 20 million new cancer cases were identified.
