2 Shootings in Birmingham Leave 7 Dead, Including Young Child

The city of Birmingham is reeling after two separate shootings claimed the lives of seven people, including a young child, on Saturday evening.

Nightclub Shooting Leaves Four Dead

The first incident occurred shortly after 11 pm at a Birmingham nightclub. According to a video posted on social media by Birmingham Police Department Officer Truman Fitzgerald, officers responded to reports of multiple people being shot outside the establishment.

Upon arrival, Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel discovered one man deceased on the sidewalk near the nightclub. Two women were also found dead inside the club.

Another victim succumbed to their injuries at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where at least nine others were being treated for gunshot wounds. It remains unclear whether these wounded victims were transported by ambulance or arrived at the hospital themselves.

Authorities believe at least one suspect opened fire on the nightclub from the street. Federal law enforcement agencies have been called in to assist with the investigation.

Targeted Shooting at Home Takes Three Lives

Earlier that same day, around 5:20 pm, police responded to a reported vehicle accident.

However, upon arrival, officers discovered a car riddled with bullet holes in the front yard of a Birmingham residence. Inside the vehicle, they found a man, woman, and a young boy all suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced all three deceased at the scene.

Investigators believe the victims were targeted in this shooting before the suspect fled in a vehicle. The victims have been identified as a 28-year-old woman from Center Point, Alabama, her 5-year-old child, and a 28-year-old man from Hoover, Alabama, believed to be the woman's boyfriend.

Birmingham Seeks Justice

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin took to social media on Sunday, expressing his outrage at the "heinous acts" and urging the public to assist with the investigation.

"We need swift justice for the victims and their families," Woodfin said. "The shooter or shooters deserve no safe harbor from their own family, friends, or strangers. Do not protect them."

Police are appealing to residents in the area to review any footage captured on home security cameras that may have captured details of the shootings.

In a statement released Sunday morning, Birmingham police reaffirmed their commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.

"We are working tirelessly to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice," the police department stated. "The Birmingham Police Department is dedicated to protecting our community and restoring a sense of safety and security."

The Birmingham community is undoubtedly shaken by these tragedies. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are calling for the public's assistance and promising to bring the perpetrators to justice.
