These underrated films cover various genres and often feature well-known actors. Yet, lacking the hype of major franchises, they often go unnoticed. That's why I'm here to highlight five of my favorite Netflix movies that deserve more attention.

However, her newfound riches come with a dangerous price tag. "Emily the Criminal" presents a gripping thriller, featuring Plaza's compelling performance in a departure from her usual comedic roles. With its captivating storyline and refreshing lead, this film is anything but a waste of time.
'Fair Play' (2023)

Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) both toil away in the competitive world of a Manhattan hedge fund, where they share more than just a workplace—they share a secret, passionate romance. Despite their engagement being kept hush-hush from their colleagues, the news of Luke's impending promotion fills them with excitement and joy.
However, their happiness takes a sharp turn when Emily lands the coveted promotion instead of Luke. Envy creeps into Luke's heart, triggering a series of irrational decisions that not only jeopardize his standing in the firm but also threaten Emily's hard-earned career.
"Fair Play" skillfully blends the undeniable chemistry between its leads with a scathing critique of corporate culture, serving as a cautionary tale for the modern era. This compelling Netflix original movie leaves viewers with a stark reminder: workplace romances may not always have a fairy-tale ending.
'Bodies Bodies Bodies' (2022)

Blending elements of horror and comedy, "Bodies Bodies Bodies" offers a fresh take on the spooky genre. The story kicks off with a group of friends, mainly affluent Gen Zers, seeking shelter in a sprawling mansion during a storm.
To pass the time, they opt to play a murder mystery game, but things take a serious turn when one of them winds up dead. As paranoia grips the group, they scramble to unmask the killer, all while striving to avoid becoming the next victim and maintaining their social media presence.
Featuring a cast that includes Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Rachel Sennott, and Pete Davidson, "Bodies Bodies Bodies" cleverly satirizes social media culture and the self-absorption it fosters. The characters are intentionally unlikable, which adds to the satisfaction of witnessing their gruesome fates unfold. Moreover, the film delivers a genuinely surprising ending, making a second viewing just as enjoyable as the first.
'Waves' (2019)

Sterling K. Brown has been gaining widespread acclaim, particularly for his standout performance in "American Fiction," which has even earned him an Oscar nomination. However, in my view, his most impressive role lies in "Waves."
Despite being a box-office disappointment upon its release in 2019, this drama is a gem worth discovering, offering a poignant exploration of a family's journey through tragedy, trauma, and ultimately, forgiveness.
Set in a suburban enclave of sunny South Florida, "Waves" centers on a family grappling with their own internal struggles. Brown portrays the authoritative yet compassionate father of Tyler (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) and Emily (Taylor Russell), two teenagers navigating the pressures of adolescence. With additional performances from Lucas Hedges, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Alexa Demie, the film delves deep into the complexities of its characters' lives.
Despite its commercial reception, "Waves" stands out as a character-driven drama, propelled by the exceptional performances of its cast. Brown's portrayal adds depth and nuance to the family dynamics, making it a standout in his illustrious career.
'Melancholia' (2011)

Hailing from acclaimed Danish director Lars von Trier, "Melancholia" features Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg as sisters grappling with a strained relationship amidst the looming threat of a colossal rogue planet, aptly named Melancholia, hurtling towards Earth.
Both Dunst and Gainsbourg deliver remarkable performances, portraying siblings coping with the impending apocalypse in vastly different ways. The film also boasts strong turns from Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgård, and Stellan Skarsgård.
While "Melancholia" may divide audiences with its unconventional approach, I see it as a film worthy of exploration. It deserves at least a chance to captivate and leave a lasting impression.
