Longoria’s Commitment to Empowering Latinas and Special Needs Community
Eva Longoria, renowned actress and philanthropist, underscores the importance of the award in tackling critical global issues. She emphasizes the significance of building upon existing efforts rather than reinventing the wheel, aiming to expand and scale services and programs.
Longoria intends to utilize her portion of the award to further the mission of the Eva Longoria Foundation, established in 2012. The foundation focuses on empowering Latinas to create better futures for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship. Longoria prioritizes supporting women, recognizing their pivotal role as changemakers within families and communities.
Longoria also plans to continue her support for Eva’s Heroes, a branch of the Eva Longoria Foundation dedicated to assisting the special needs community. Inspired by her sister, who lives with a mental disability, Longoria emphasizes the importance of inclusion and support for individuals with special needs.
Eva’s Heroes, initially an after-school program for adults with special needs, has expanded significantly, benefiting thousands of families in Texas and beyond.
McRaven’s Efforts to Support Education and Mental Health
Admiral Bill McRaven, co-recipient of the award, outlines his plans to distribute his share of the funds among three key charitable endeavors.
Firstly, he aims to support the education of children of fallen heroes, particularly in the special operations community, through organizations such as the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
Additionally, McRaven intends to allocate funds towards mental health initiatives, advocating for improved brain health and performance, with a focus on veterans.
Lastly, he will address the financial barriers hindering many aspiring military leaders from joining the ROTC program, aiming to make military service more accessible.
Gratitude for the Opportunity to Make a Lasting Impact
Both Longoria and McRaven express profound gratitude for the opportunity to make a significant and enduring impact through the Courage and Civility Award.
Longoria emphasizes the extraordinary opportunity to expand her vision and continue her philanthropic efforts, while McRaven reflects on the transformative impact the award will have on countless lives.
They will be personally honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., tonight, underscoring their dedication to driving positive change on a global scale.
