Firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed at trump rally during an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, as reported by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Sunday.

Comperatore was among the thousands attending the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which was part of Trump’s 2024 reelection campaign.

According to the governor, he died while trying to protect his family. The Pennsylvania State Police confirmed his identity on Sunday.

Details of the Attack

Authorities have identified the gunman in Saturday’s attack as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed at the scene by Secret Service agents after the shooting. The FBI is treating the attack as an assassination attempt.

Governor Shapiro said on Sunday, "I just spoke to Corey’s wife and Corey’s two daughters. Corey was a dedicated supporter of the former president and was thrilled to be at the rally with him in the community last night. I asked Corey’s wife if I could share our conversation, and she agreed.

Governor Shapiro announced that flags would be flown at half-staff in honor of Corey Comperatore.

The Pennsylvania State Police reported that, in addition to Comperatore, two people were critically injured in the incident: David Dutch, 57, from New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, 74, from Moon Township. Both are currently in stable condition.
