Kylie Kelce Targeted After Opposing Butker’s Speech
On May 26th, Kylie Kelce, wife of former NFL star Jason Kelce, was targeted online with criticism labeling her a subpar "homemaker." This came after she publicly voiced her opinion against Harrison Butker's commencement speech at Benedictine College.
In the speech, Butker emphasized the value of women in the workforce while seemingly downplaying the contributions of stay-at-home mothers.
Kylie argued for a more balanced perspective, recognizing and appreciating the dedication and hard work stay-at-home mothers put into raising families.
Jason Kelce Defends Wife and Modern Partnership
Jason Kelce defended his wife on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with a firm response. In a post shared on May 27th, he emphasized that he doesn't view Kylie solely as a homemaker.
He highlighted their partnership, stating, "She has her career, just like I do, and together we manage our household to the best of our abilities."
Kelce went on to describe their marriage as a collaboration built on equality, where both partners share responsibilities and prioritize their family.
He further clarified that maintaining a tidy home is a shared effort, acknowledging the challenges of juggling busy careers, young children, and personal preferences regarding tidiness.
Kelce Brothers Discuss Butker’s Speech on Podcast
Jason Kelce defended his position further on his podcast, "New Heights," alongside his brother Travis, who also plays in the NFL as a teammate of Butker on the Kansas City Chiefs.
During the May 11th episode, Jason acknowledged that while he disagreed with some aspects of Butker's speech, he understood the potential influence of religious beliefs at a Catholic university.
Travis, however, took a more critical stance, expressing disagreement with "just about any" of Butker's points.
Butker Stands By Speech Despite Backlash
Harrison Butker himself addressed the controversy surrounding his graduation speech during an event titled "Courage Under Fire" held two weeks later. He acknowledged the negative reactions to his emphasis on "timeless Catholic values," stating, "If it wasn't clear that these values are hated by many, it is now."
However, he also noted a shift in sentiment, where even those who disagreed with his views expressed support for his right to freedom of religion. Butker ultimately emphasized that love for Jesus should be the primary motivator for expressing one's beliefs, even if it leads to disagreement or disapproval.
Jason Kelce defending his wife and the broader conversation on gender roles within families highlight the ongoing social discussions surrounding tradition and modern partnerships.
