Emergency responders have been working tirelessly to rescue passengers who were trapped in a bus swept away by Kenya floods on a busy highway in northern Kenya.
According to police reports, the bus, carrying approximately 50 passengers, was en route to Nairobi from northern Wajir county when the incident occurred.
The driver made an ill-fated attempt to cross a flooded section of the road, resulting in the bus getting stuck in mud surrounded by swiftly flowing waters.
During the nearly 10-hour rescue operation, some individuals were saved from the bus's rooftop. The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that all passengers on board the bus have been successfully rescued, describing the effort as a challenging endeavor to save those stranded by the floodwaters.

Incident Details and Impact
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday amidst ongoing heavy rains, which have caused significant flooding along the Garissa-Nairobi Highway. Footage circulated on social media depicted the Umma Express bus being submerged by floodwaters in the Lager Areli area near Tulla village in Tana River county.
Ali Ndiema, the local police chief, informed Kenya's Nation news website that the driver had endangered the lives of over 50 individuals, stating that this action constitutes a punishable offense.
The Kenya Red Cross stated that it had partnered with members of the nearby community to reach the stranded passengers. Two boats from the organization are still working to rescue other commuters stuck due to the road's impassable condition.
Just hours prior to the incident, Kenya's roads agency had announced the closure of a segment of the highway due to flooding.
