Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner wrapped up their divorce on Feb. 15, 2024, following a well-known and heated separation — yet their bond wasn't always turbulent.
On February 13, 2023, just a day prior to Valentine's Day, Costner posted a video where he unwrapped his Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
In the video, the 68-year-old actor expressed his excitement, praising his wife for her efforts in decorating their home in Montecito, California, for an impromptu Golden Globes viewing party.
Costner mentioned that despite the floods preventing them from attending the event in person a month earlier, his wife managed to create a festive atmosphere with just "$30."
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner’s Divorce: A Rocky Road to Resolution
Less than three months later, Christine shocked everyone when she filed for divorce on May 1 after being married for 18 years. According to court papers obtained by ET, Christine cited irreconcilable differences and listed April 11 as the date they separated.
Just a day after Christine filed for divorce, a spokesperson for the Yellowstone star hinted that he was unwillingly drawn into the divorce proceedings.
"With deep regret, circumstances beyond his control have led to Mr. Costner being involved in a divorce," read the statement from Kevin Costner's representative to ET.
This statement, as it turned out, hinted at the contentious nature of the divorce. The turbulent proceedings continued, and more than four months after Christine's initial filing, they reached a settlement in September 2023.
When did Costner and Baumgarthner met?
In one of her recent court filings, Christine revealed that she first met Kevin on a golf course when she was 18 years old.
Reports indicate that Kevin, who was then married to his first wife Cindy Silva, was practicing for his sports comedy, Tin Cup, during the early 1990s.
According to Christine, they didn't start dating until about six years later, in 1999, before eventually getting married in 2004 at Kevin's second home in Aspen, Colorado. Kevin was previously married to Cindy from 1978 until their divorce in 1994, which was reportedly very expensive.
They have three adult children together – Annie, Lily, and Joe – all in their thirties. Kevin also has an adult son named Liam from a previous relationship with actress Bridget Rooney.

They broke up in 2003
Kevin and Christine reportedly broke up, with the main reason being that Kevin did not want to have more children. However, they got back together shortly after. Kevin remembered a conversation they had, as reported by People.
"In 2020, she said to me, 'If you're going to be with me, you need to know that having kids is something I want, and if that's not on the table for you, then we need to reconsider,'" Kevin recalled.
Kevin shared with Parade in 2012 that after their initial breakup, Christine told him, "'I'll wait for you, but not forever. When you realize what's important, come back to me.' And I did."
They got married in 2004.
Kevin and Christine tied the knot at his expansive Dunbar Ranch in Aspen, Colorado.
Now available for rent at a staggering $36,000 per night, the ranch spans 160 acres and boasts two lakes. It comprises three distinct residences, eight bathrooms, and 12 bedrooms, accommodating up to 34 guests in total.
The primary suite even includes a secret entrance to a jacuzzi with a waterfall. Additionally, the property features a baseball field reminiscent of the one featured in Kevin Costner's iconic 1989 film.
Then 3 kids in 3 year
Kevin becomes a father for the fifth time when Christine gives birth to Cayden in May 2007. At the time Christine files for divorce from Kevin, Cayden is 15 years old.
Following Cayden's birth, Christine gave birth to their second son, Hayes, in 2009, and their daughter, Grace, in 2010. When Christine files for divorce, Hayes is 14 years old and Grace is 12.
