Trump Gun License Expected to be Revoked

A spokesperson from the New York Police Department has indicated that former President Donald Trump's gun license is anticipated to be revoked following his conviction on 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records.

Trump's license for firearms in New York City had previously been suspended upon his indictment.

Trump’s License Suspension

The Trump campaign did not immediately provide a response to CNN's report regarding the anticipated revocation of Donald Trump's gun license.

Revoking gun licenses after convictions is a common practice in New York.

Status of Trump’s Gun License

While it's uncertain when the former president last possessed a firearm, his gun license for New York City was active at the time of his indictment in March 2023 in the hush money case, as stated by the NYPD spokesperson.

Since 2015, Trump has been under the protection of the Secret Service, a status that began when he became the Republican nominee for president.

Conviction and Sentencing
Trump's conviction on all 34 counts of falsifying business records last Thursday marked a historic verdict, as it's the first time a former U.S. president has been convicted.

He is scheduled for sentencing on July 11, just before the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to be officially nominated as the party's presidential candidate.

Response from Biden Campaign

Last month, the former president delivered a keynote address at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting, where he received the group's formal endorsement and urged gun owners to participate in voting.

Criticism from Biden Campaign: The Biden campaign criticized the former president in response to the anticipated revocation of his gun license.

Singer's Statement
Campaign spokesperson James Singer stated, "When Trump assures the NRA that he won't take any action to prevent convicted felons, domestic abusers, and other dangerous individuals from accessing firearms, he's essentially referring to himself."

Trump's Response to Gun Violence
In a civil trial last year, Trump was held liable for sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll, although he has not been charged with domestic abuse.

Additional Comments from Singer

Singer added, "Donald Trump's dilemma stems from the fact that Joe Biden currently holds the presidency, not him — hence, just as he advised the victims of gun violence to 'get over it,' he should heed his own advice."

The singer was alluding to Trump's response to an Iowa school shooting in January, where the former president remarked that individuals "have to get over it. We have to move forward."
