"During the altercation, a struggle ensued, leading to gunfire that resulted in injuries to three of our officers," Schierbaum said in a press briefing. "Tragically, the individual armed with the handgun was fatally shot."

The deceased suspect's identity remains unknown, and authorities believe he acted alone.

Officers Transported to Grady Memorial Hospital

The three injured officers were transported by police vehicles to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. One officer suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, another to the leg, and the third sustained a graze wound. Two officers were scheduled for surgery, according to Schierbaum.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will lead the investigation into the shooting.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens visited the hospitalized officers, reporting they were "alert, conscious, and breathing." During a news conference outside the hospital, Dickens commented on the prevalence of gun violence, noting he and other officials were on their way to a police department fundraiser when informed of the armed man being killed.

Nightclub Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Four Injured

In a separate incident, a shooting at a nightclub in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood left two people dead and four injured.

The shooting erupted early Sunday morning at the Elleven45 Lounge following an altercation, as reported by WSB-TV.

Police arrived at the club around 2:30 am and are searching for a suspect. No description of the suspect has been released, and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage.

Authorities have not yet identified the victims, but all were believed to be in their 20s. The deceased included one male and one female.

Atlanta police homicide commander Lt. Andrew Smith reported that the two wounded men and two wounded women were transported to hospitals and expected to recover.
