Authorities were notified about the incident at 7:35 a.m. Thursday local time and authorities arrived in 10 minutes. Classes were scheduled to start at 7:55 a.m. After the winter break, it was the first day of school.
Police said that a student in sixth grade was killed, and three other students and administrator of Perry High School, five were injured in the shooting. None of the victim's names have been shared.

Ava Augustus, a senior at Perry High School, reported hearing three shots while waiting for a counselor in the school office. She was unable to escape through a small window.
