A man (Deobra Delone Redden) jumped over a defence table and the judge’s bench, knocking Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus from her seat and against a wall, then pulling her to the floor. She had some injuries but was not sent to the hospital, courthouse officials said.
A courtroom marshal was also injured as he came to protect the judge and got gashs on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder, and he was hospitalised, according to the witnesses.
A man was arrested and jailed at the Clark Country detention centre. He faces several new charges, including battery on a protected person, referring to the judge and court officers.
Where and When Did The Attack Occurred?
The attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. (Las Vegas time) at the Regional Justice Centre in Las Vegas.
It happened so fast that it was hard to know what to do, said Richard Scow, the chief county district attorney who prosecuted Redden in a case that stemmed from an arrest last year Redden attacked a person with a baseball bat.
Redden was not in custody when he arrived at the Las Vegas judge. Redden wore a white shirt and dark brown pants as he stood next to the judge. “I’m not a rebellious person,” he told the judge, later adding that he did not think he should be sent to prison. “But if it’s appropriate for you, then you have to do what you have to do.”
Las Vegas made it clear to send him to prison, and the court marshal handcuffed him.
