The trailer for 'Despicable Me 4' has been released.
Gru and the Minions make a comeback in the first trailer for Universal and Illumination's "Despicable Me 4," set to hit theaters on July 3, 2024.
The latest installment in the beloved animated franchise continues the story of the reformed supervillain Gru, played by Steve Carell, as he strives to do good and build a family. Returning for the fourth film are Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Chris Renaud, Dana Gaier, and Pierre Coffin.
"Despicable Me 4" introduces fresh voices to the cast, including Will Ferrell, Joey King, Sofia Vergara, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, and Madison Polan. Ferrell lends his voice to Gru's new adversary, Maxime Le Mal, while Vergara takes on the role of Maxime's femme fatale girlfriend, Valentina.
Back Story
The initial film showcased Gru adopting three daughters, and the sequel depicted Gru discovering love with Lucy Wilde (voiced by Wiig).
The third installment, "Despicable Me 3," surprised audiences with the introduction of Gru's long-lost twin brother, Dru (also voiced by Steve Carell). In the upcoming fourth film, Gru and Lucy expand their family by welcoming a new member: their son, Gru Jr.
In 2017, "Despicable Me 3" enjoyed remarkable success at the box office, crossing the $1 billion milestone globally. This accomplishment surpassed the "Shrek" series, making it the highest-grossing animated film franchise at that time.
The franchise owes much of its triumph to its iconic and memorable characters, particularly the Minions who speak Minionese. These beloved yellow creatures initially served as Gru's "sidekicks" but, driven by popular demand, have since taken the spotlight in their spinoff movies, namely "Minions" and "Minions: The Rise of Gru."
