Canto leaves behind his two young children, Roman Alder, who is three and a half years old, and Eve Josephine, who is one and a half years old, as well as his wife Stephanie Ann Canto, who is also his greatest friend and creative collaborator.

Canto was born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico in 1981 and raised in Texas, At sixteen, Canto moved out of his family to seek a career in Mexico City as a singer and guitarist. Before being scouted for a significant role in Kevin Williamson's 2013 Fox drama series, he began appearing in regional commercials and television series.
He went on to star in television shows like Mixology, Blood & Oil, and Designated Survivor, in which he played Vice President-elect Aaron Shore for three seasons alongside Kiefer Sutherland.
