Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the most important skill I have learned as an affiliate marketing professional. The ability to get your content in Google search results gives you recurring, free, and high-quality visitors, which is exactly what you need if you want to make more money.
This screenshot shows my Google Analytics traffic breakdown. It shows that nearly 90% of my traffic has come from Google over the past month.
SEO can be divided into three areas:
- On-page SEO
- Link building
- Technical SEO
On-page SEO includes things like:
- Your target keyword should be included in your title and your URL.
- Optimizing for featured snippets.
- Signing EA-T (expertise and authority, as well as trustworthiness)
Optimized content that targets the right keywords is not enough to rank. Backlinks to your website from other websites are one of the most important Google ranking elements. These links show Google that your website can be trusted.
Backlinks can be built in many different ways. These often involve email outreach to other website owners. You should be comfortable writing emails.
Finally, you will need to master basic technical SEO. It's not difficult as it seems. It doesn't require you to be a programmer or have any other technical skills. There are WordPress plugins available for almost any SEO task, such as Yoast or Rank Math.
2. Begin With Keyword Research
Keyword research This is the most important skill you can learn. To find out more about affiliate products, you need to be able to identify the keywords that people search for and then create content that matches those keywords.
To generate keyword ideas, Ahrefs offers a free keyword generator. You can simply type in a broad keyword that is related to your niche and it will return a list with related keywords.
A blog post should contain a targeted keyword for SEO. To be able to cover the topic fully, I recommend that you focus on creating content hubs. This will increase your chances of being ranked highly on Google.
3. Amazon is Your Best Friend
Amazon Associates should be the first program for an affiliate marketer to begin affiliate marketing. Although Amazon offers products in nearly every niche, its commission percentages can be quite low.
It's fine to start with Amazon. Once you have identified which products make you the most money it is a good idea to go to the manufacturer or to another retailer who will pay you a higher commission.
To see which products bring you the highest income, go to your Amazon dashboard and click on the "Earnings tab. Then sort it by "Revenue."
You will need to do some research to find an affiliate that sells similar products or the same product. To find the best deals, you will need to do some Google searches and make phone calls. It's worth it, provided you make a substantially higher commission.
To make it worthwhile, you will likely need to make at most twice the commission. To make it worthwhile, I want to earn at least 8% commission.
Amazon's 24-hour cookie policy allows you to earn on any product that someone purchases within 24 hours of clicking your link. Even if the product is not what you originally recommended. Amazon has also spent billions improving its conversion rate, brand reputation, and other aspects. You will almost certainly get a lower conversion rate if you link to other sites.
Before you switch to another affiliate, it's a good idea. You can change a few links to see how they affect your income over the course of a month. Change more links if it is higher. If it is lower, you can change it back and find a partner with a better site or a higher commission.

Amazon can alter its affiliate terms at will, just like it did in 2020 when it lowered commission rates across most categories. Worse yet, most other corporations will follow Amazon's example and alter their commissions soon after.
Expanding to work alongside multiple partners is not enough. You need to consider other income sources. To avoid having all your eggs in the same basket, you can make an online course, drop-ship your products, and display ads.
6. Concentrate on Email Capture
SEO is not immune to sudden changes. Google can make drastic changes at any moment, just like Amazon.
You would be able to tell that I was affected by a Google update, which resulted in a drop of 60% in my income almost immediately. It's not fun.
It is important to capture your readers' email addresses. Email is the only channel that you have control over and isn't affected by any company's policies.
You can contact your email list anytime you like if you don't spam.

These extra steps will not only take more time, but they will also help you to be ahead of others.
8. Keep Your Data Organized
This is an important tip that I wish someone had given me when I started affiliate marketing. As your website grows, you will need to have an organization. You can also use multiple affiliate partners to create hundreds of blog posts.
- This is a list of all content published on your website. It also includes the publish dates, meta tags, and affiliate links.
- This is a list of all your affiliates, with their login URLs and commission percentages.
- These guidelines describe how to upload, publish, and write your content.
I like to include basic information about each page such as the keyword it targets, the content hub it is a part of, and the keywords it ranks for. This data I pull from Ahrefs Site Explorer.
To download a sheet containing all your ranking data, just head to the Organic Keywords tab.
You can then upload the sheet to a Google Sheet, and modify it to suit your needs.
9. Keep It Up-to-Date and Create More Content
Last, but not least, Affiliate Marketing need to create more content and keep it updated as your website grows.
It is impossible to expect your website to generate only a handful of articles and become a six-figure income source. To reach this point, it takes hundreds (or even thousands) of articles.
It can take years to create that much content.
Refresh your content if you have been writing content for many years. This will keep your content current and help improve your Google search rankings.
