Actor Kenneth Mitchell, known for his roles in shows like "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Jericho," has passed away at the age of 49 after battling ALS.

His death was confirmed on Sunday through a statement posted on his verified Instagram account. The post described Mitchell as a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and friend.

Kenneth Mitchell appeared in various episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery," portraying multiple characters including a Klingon named Kol, and he lent his voice to characters in the animated series "Star Trek: Lower Decks."

Additionally, he played Eric Green in CBS' "Jericho" and portrayed Joseph Danvers in a flashback scene in the 2019 Marvel film "Captain Marvel," where he was the father of Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson.

Kenneth Mitchell’s ALS Diagnosis Revelation: A Shocking Discovery

In 2020, Mitchell disclosed that he had received an ALS diagnosis two years prior. Speaking with People in an interview, he revealed he had started using a wheelchair in 2019 and received the diagnosis in 2018 after noticing muscle twitching.

"When they told us it was ALS, it felt like I was in a movie," Kenneth Mitchell recalled. "It was like watching that scene where someone learns they have a terminal illness. I was completely stunned, in disbelief."

In an Instagram post from 2021, Mitchell expressed his gratitude for being included in the role of Aurellio, a character from "Star Trek" who utilized a hovercraft chair.

He described the opportunity as "incredibly thankful for the inclusion," emphasizing that the role served as a reminder that despite disabilities, there are always opportunities for potential and capability.

In 2022, Mitchell also starred in the FX series "The Old Man" as a character tailored specifically for him.

Surviving Mitchell are his wife, Susan, and their two children. He previously informed People magazine that following his diagnosis, his priority shifted to maximizing time with his family. This commitment led him to decline a leading television role that would have necessitated relocation.

The statement posted on his social media conveyed that for five and a half years, Ken confronted numerous difficult trials due to ALS. However, he consistently exhibited grace and dedication to embracing life to the fullest in every moment. Ken lived by the belief that each day is precious and that we are never alone in our journey.
