Microsoft’s Gaming Expansion and Financial Performance

Microsoft's gaming business, encompassing Xbox and Activision Blizzard, reported a remarkable revenue of $7.1 billion in the last quarter. The acquisition of gaming giant Activision Blizzard was successfully completed by Microsoft on October 13, 2023. Notably, revenue from Xbox content and services witnessed a substantial 61 percent surge, largely attributed to the impact of the Activision acquisition.

Microsoft disclosed that the net revenue impact from acquiring Activision Blizzard amounted to slightly over $2 billion. Additionally, the company initiated workforce reductions in its gaming division earlier this year, affecting approximately 1,900 employees, with a significant impact on Activision Blizzard staff.
