UK Parliament Initiates Legislative Process for Smoking Ban
KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — The United Kingdom has taken a significant step towards implementing a pioneering smoking ban across generations. The introduction of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in the UK Parliament signals the beginning of the legislative journey for this proposed ban.
A Bold Move Towards a Smoke-Free Generation
The bill's primary objective is to prohibit the sale of cigarettes to individuals born in 2009 or later, as well as those who will turn 15 this year or younger. This groundbreaking legislation, dubbed the smoking generational end game (GEG), proposes an incremental increase in the legal smoking age each year. The ultimate aim is to ensure that teenagers born from 2009 onward are unable to legally purchase tobacco products.
